Mansoor in quarterfinals

LAHORE, May 5: Top seed Mansoor Zaman with seven other Pakistanis entered the quarterfinals of the International squash tournament at Punjab Squash Complex on Wednesday. Mansoor, the world No 19, made short work of Wal Hang Wong (Hong Kong) as he took only 23 minutes to win 15/7, 15/11, 15/13.

In the only other match involving a foreigner, Naveed Atlas took 53 minutes to beat Indian Ritwik Bhattacharya. Naveed won 15/12, 12/15, 15/13, 15/10. Shamsul Islam defeated Safeerullah Khan in five games 11/15, 5/15, 15/8, 15/7, 15/14 in 63 minutes.

Safeer made a fine start by taking 2-0 lead but Shams came back to win the remaining games in a row. He won the second and third easily. Matching each other at 8-8, 9-9, 12-12 and in the end 13-all, Shams finally earned 14-13 lead and with a nick shot to seal the fate of the match.

Arshad Iqbal Burki managed to beat Yasir Butt in a 70-minute match, 15/11, 15/10, 10/15, 17/15.
