Musharraf, Shujaat discuss situation
ISLAMABAD May 4: PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf at his Rawalpindi camp office to discuss national issues and current political situation, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.
The sources said that in an hour-long meeting Mr Hussain apprised President Musharraf of the ongoing process of unification of the Pakistan Muslim League factions and merger of other small parties with it.
There was no official word about the meeting which may set the course of action for the ruling PML-Q in the coming days, but the sources claimed that it was held on the desire of President Musharraf to know about the progress of PML unification and outcome of the league meetings.
Mr Hussain informed the president of the details of the two meetings which were presided over by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali. The PML-Q chief went alone apparently to discuss matters which he was perhaps not prepared to take up with the president in the presence of others.
The sources claimed that the presidentship of the unified PML and Mr Jamali's wish to become its secretary-general came under discussion. Legal lacunas in the way of getting the unified PML registered with the Election Commission was also discussed, the sources added.
