MITHI: Appeal for justice

By Our Correspondent

MITHI, May 4: Members of three Meghwar families, who have been staging a sit-in outside the local press club for three days to protest against alleged excesses of some influential people, have urged the government to provide them with justice.

Talking to journalists on Tuesday, Kewal, Kalaram, Malook, Pirbhu, Bhagwani (wife of Kewal), Gauri (wife of Kalaram), Jami (wife of Malook), Chothi (wife of Pirbhu) and others alleged that Amir Bakhsh Lakhmir, Hashim and other influentials of Sakrio village, Chhachhro taluka, were committing atrocities against them which had forced them to migrate from the village.

When they complained to higher authorities, the influentials were enraged and threatened them with dire consequences unless they withdrew the complaint, they alleged.

The police were also harassing them at the behest of the influentials, they added. The Meghwars have demanded that state functionaries should conduct an inquiry into the matter and provide justice to them.

BAITUL MAAL: Tharparkar district council members, expressing their dissatisfaction at the 'mismanagement in the distribution of Baitul Maal funds in Thar', have demanded that the government should make the system transparent.

Participating in a debate on the issue of distribution of Baitul Maal funds during a council session on Tuesday, Abdul Latif, Poonjomal, Abdur Rahim Khoso, Bherulal, Tara Bai and others alleged that the modus d'operandi of the distribution of the said funds was totally flawed and the so-called agents and "Thekedars", in connivance with corrupt officials, had embezzled the same in the past by making fake entries.
