FAISALABAD, May 2: The Christian youth, who was tortured allegedly by the guard and some students of a seminary, succumbed to his injuries at the Allied Hospital on Saturday night. The body was shifted to the mortuary for autopsy in the presence of a large number of Christians.

Talking to newsmen at hospital, relatives alleged that the Toba Tek Singh police were not taking action against the accused responsible for the death of Javed Anjum. They accused the police of removing vital evidence to save the culprits.

Relatives said they would hold a demonstration against police in Toba Tek Sigh after getting the body of Javed. Our Toba Tek Sigh correspondent adds: Maternal uncle Jameel claimed that Maulana Ghulam Murtaza of Jamia Hassan Bin Murtaza of Chak 323-JB Trandi, some 4 kilometres away from Toba Tek Singh, forced Javed to convert to Islam.

He also alleged that guard Ghulam Rasool and some students ruthlessly tortured Javed and handed him over to area police through a village elder when he fell unconscious.

Pervez Masih stated in the complaint lodged with the Toba Tek Singh City police that his 'insane' son was found lying injured near a railway crossing along Toba-Gojra Road on April 20.

Javed told his father and other relatives in Gojra that he was severely tortured at the seminary. Seminary in-charge Maulana Ghulam Murtaza had denied the allegations that Javed was tortured or forced to change his faith. They said the guard and some students overpowered Javed when he was trying to remove an electric pump from the seminary. They said Javed was an addict and used to steal goods. He was handed over to area police.

Toba Tek Singh City police had registered a case against Ghulam Rasool under Section 337-F on the complaint of Pervez Masih. The police added Section 302 in the FIR on Sunday and arrested Ghulam Rasool. Raids were being conducted for the arrest of other accused.

City SHO Naveed Irshad said that they received the complaint on April 20. A medical board of the DHQ Hospital said in its April 29 report that a hand of Javed had been fractured and marks of wounds were also found on the body.
