Move to give court data on Dr Khan
By Our Staff Reporter
ISLAMABAD, May 1: Maj (retd) Hassamul Haq on Friday filed an application in the Supreme Court to make some additional records part of an earlier petition moved for producing former KRL chief Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan in the court.
Filed by advocate Mohammad Ikram Chaudhry, the petitioner said that he had submitted clippings of certain news items and articles to present a true picture of the situation and to protect the dignity, honour, life and liberty of Dr A.Q. Khan.
The petitioner had earlier filed a petition seeking a directive from the apex court to the state to produce Dr Khan in the court and to reveal the contents of an FIR lodged against Dr Khan on his alleged involvement in proliferation of nuclear technology.
The petitioner also mentioned in the application that he had earlier filed a petition before the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court against the detention of Dr Khan but the case could not proceed beyond the desk of the high court registrar because questions of maintainability and locus standi were raised.
In its reply before the Supreme Court, the federation had stated that Dr Khan was not in the custody of the government but under its protection and that the question of producing Dr Khan in the court did not arise because he was a free man.
The application also mentioned the statement of US President George Bush in which he had stated publicly that Dr Khan was on top of the list of the underworld people involved in the proliferation of nuclear technology and said that the statement had created concern among the public.
