'EU set to encourage Pakistan, India talks'

NEW DELHI, May 1: The European Union has evinced its keenness to encourage both India and Pakistan to effectively pursue the dialogue process for the settlement of their disputes, including Kashmir.

European Union officials recently paid a visit to India and expressed their willingness to help create an enabling environment for the purpose, Irish Ambassador Philip McDonagh said here.

He said the EU's expansion from 15 to 25 members should be beneficial for developing countries.

The enlargement was likely to give the benefit of access to a larger market to countries such as India, a report quoted European Commission Ambassador Francisco da Camara Gomes as having said.

A single set of tariff rules, administrative procedures and currency was expected to be of advantages to the trading partners of the EU, he said.-APP
