Published May 2, 2004

LAHORE, May 1: The Punjab government is expected to spend around Rs150 million on the Baab-i-Pakistan. Official sources said on Saturday the seed money provided by the Punjab and the Balochistan governments at the time of the launching of its idea by the late Ghulam Haider Wyne in 1992 has swollen to Rs 300 million and would be utilized for constructing the monument.

They said originally the monument was to be built at an area of 75 acres but around 35 acres of additional land had also been acquired for the purpose.

The project director would be appointed some time next week, they said.

According to Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, President Pervez Musharraf would lay the foundation stone of the monument on August 14.
