LAHORE, May 1: Only the Northern Areas received light rain on Saturday as the westerly system causing rain and snowfall in the country during the past three days almost passed over to India.
A trough of low pressure over the upper NWFP and Kashmir did, however, exist which might cause light rain in their areas during the next 24 hours, a senior Met officer reported.
He hoped that with the cessation of the rain spell, which intensified on Friday, the maximum temperatures all over the country would start rising from Sunday.
The rain and the snowfall over the hills had dropped temperatures to a record low on Friday, the last day of April which normally witnesses maximum temperature around 40 degrees C in the plains of the Punjab.
The normal maximum temperature in Southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan ranges between 40 and over 45 degrees C in April.
Besides giving a surprised cold weather, the rain has damaged wheat crop in the province.
In Lahore, it remained partly cloudy but the dry weather increased the maximum temperature from Friday evening's 16.5 degrees C to 26.2 degrees. The minimum temperature during the previous night was 14.4 degrees C.
The local Met office reported that Dir received 15mm of rain between 8am and 5pm, Malamjabba 8mm, Saidu Sharif 4mm, Kakul 3mm, Gilgit, Garhi Dupatta, Balakot and Muzaffargarh 2mm each and Jhelum 1mm.
It has predicted light rain in some parts of the Punjab during the next 24 hours.
It earlier reported that by 8am, Kotli and Murree each had 47mm of rain, Sialkot 33mm, Muzaffarabad and Garhi Dupatta 29mm, Malamjabba and Saidu Sharif 25mm, Islamabad 17mm, Dir 15mm, Sargodha and Risalpur 7mm, Gilgit 6mm, Skardu 5mm, Drosh 4mm, Kamra 3mm, Kalam 2mm, and Faisalabad and Chitral 1mm each.
