KARACHI, April 30: A young suspect died under mysterious circumstances about three hours after his arrest by Malir City police on Friday.

The police claimed that the man, Mohammad Sadiq, 28, was arrested in Sher Mohammad Goth, Malir, at about 9am on Friday in connection with a murder case. However, they added, the suspected committed suicide using a draw-string, and his body was found hanging from the ventilator in the passage of the lock-up. Later, his body was shifted to the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.

The autopsy report was reserved by the medico legal officer and the body was sent to the Edhi morgue. According to the police, Sadiq was among several suspects booked in the murder of a dismissed policeman, Mohammad Younis, vide FIR No. 89/2003.

While the other accused had been arrested, two suspects, one of them Sadiq, had been at large. Police said that Sadiq had been residing in Rahimabad, Khokhrapar, but had moved to some other place. His family could not be contacted, they added.
