DADU, April 28: A large number of growers of taluka Dadu staged a demonstration in front of the office of executive engineer irrigation here on Wednesday to protest against shortage of water.

Addressing the protesters, Abdul Karim Mallah said that due to silting Peer Shakh waterway had been dried up and water was not available even for drinking for the last five months.

He said that situation was no different in Phakka, Khudabad and Noonari waterways which originated from Dadu canal. He said that if desilting of these waterways was not carried out and growers were not provided their due share of water, they would be forced to continue their protest.

Later, Executive Engineer irrigation Dadu, Habibullah Kabooro met a delegation of growers and assured them that desilting at the tail-end of waterways would be carried out in near future.

ROBBERY: Unidentified bandits looted cash, jewellery and valuables from a house in Kotri Site area on Wednesday. Sources said three bandits barged into the house of Mumtaz Ali Khokhar and decamped with Rs60,000 in cash, gold ornaments and other valuables. Kotri police have registered a FIR on the complaint of Mumtaz Khokhar.

SUICIDE: Mohammad Amin Sahar, 25, committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun over some domestic problems in village Maso Sahar on Wednesday.

DROWNS: A man drowned in the River Indus while two others were rescued by boatmen near Lakhi Shah Saddar town. The man who drowned was identified as Abdul Rehman, 25, resident of South Waziristan. He was taking bath in the river with Dola Jan and Ikramullah who were rescued.
