LAHORE, April 28: A rickshaw driver was killed when a billboard fell on him at the Ganga Ram Chowk in the Civil Lines area here on Wednesday. Police said the billboard had been installed by an advertizing agency on behalf of the Parks and Horticulture Authority.
They said the board could not sustain even mild duststorm, dislodged and collapsed on a rickshaw. Driver Mazhar Maqbool, 25, died immediately. His body was handed over to his family at Tariq Colony on Multan Road without autopsy.
A police official said this was the second incident of its kind as another billboard had fallen in Samanabad some two years ago. In that incident, four people were killed, including an architect, the only son of his parents.
There are several jumbo-sized billboards in the city, which may collapse in case of heavy windstorm, he says. No case has so far been registered in this regard.
FALSE CASE: The Defence police on Wednesday initiated a legal action against a man on the charge of getting registered a false robbery case. The police said Rashid Butt on April 26 called the police and claimed that two gunmen had barged into his house and took away his car and Rs50,000 in cash.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the complainant had the case registered to implicate his uncle in the robbery to settle his personal score.
