Ramiz ruined cricket: LCCA boss

Published April 23, 2004

LAHORE, April 22: Aamir Hayat Rokri, the president of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA), alleged on Thursday that PCB chief executive had ruined the game with his 'childish' policies.

He told reporters that Ramiz Raja has been working with the PCB for the last four years in different capacities and his policies had failed to provide positive results. "Pakistan failed at the last World Cup and now lost the home series against India. It is ample proof of decline in the standard of Pakistan cricket," he added.

He claimed the former chairman Tauqir Zia and the present PCB chief Shaharyar M. Khan did not know anything about cricket and Ramiz took full advantage of the situation.

Aamir Hayat disclosed the LCCA would call a meeting of the representatives of Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad and Peshawar next week to adopt a future line of action against the PCB.

"The meeting would demand President Gen Pervez Musharraf to end the five-year long ad hocism in the board and to restore its council," he added. Aamir Hayat said that due to the wrong policies of Ramiz all the city cricket associations had become inactive.

He alleged that Ramiz conspired to oust Aamir Sohail as chief selector and contended that the selectors put extra pressure on openers Imran Farhat and Taufiq Umar by recalling Imran Nazir during the recently concluded series against India.

He claimed Ramiz was favouring his uncle Sami Khan by appointing him incharge of the PCB's estates department and obliging his close friend Arif Rahim. He accused Ramiz as a TV commentator he had been criticising his own players. "Instead of criticising the players, he should quit the office," he demanded. He said the LCCA would move the court to get its right from the PCB.
