KARACHI: Two robbers awarded 10 years

KARACHI, April 22: An additional district and sessions judge, West, sentenced on Thursday two robbers to suffer rigours imprisonment for 10 years.
Judge Sagheer Rana also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Ahmed Shah and Aurangzeb and ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional two-year term.
The two were found guilty of having deprived Haji Nawab, a towel factory owner, of cash on July 22, 1998 in the limits of the Mominabad police. A 12-year-old girl, Kunwal, was killed and a seven-year-old boy, Arsalan, was wounded when one of the accused opened fire after looting the factory owner.
According to the prosecution, the two accused intercepted Haji Nawab, the factory owner, held him hostage at gunpoint and snatched Rs2,622. As they were fleeing, a police party spotted them and chased them. The dacoits opened fire killing the girl and wounding the boy.
The two had been first tried by an anti-terrorism court, which convicted them of multiple offences on June 29, 1999. Aurangzeb was sentenced to death for killing the girl and Ahmed Shah was sentenced to a 10-year term for wounding the boy.
Both the accused had also been also awarded a 10-year term with a fine of Rs10,000 each for robbery. The two were also sentenced to a seven-year term for possessing illegal firearms.
However, the convicts later moved an appeal in the Sindh High Court against their conviction by the ATC. The SHC disposed of their appeal and remanded the case back to the district and sessions court for retrial. Later, the district court acquitted the accused of murder charge and sent the connected cases to the court of additional district and session court.
LIFE TERM: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Sikander Ali Lashari, sentenced three accused to suffer life term in a murder case. Naushad, Jaseem alias Pervaiz and Danish were found guilty of having murdered Aziz Uddin on July 27, 1999 in the limits of Orangi Town.
They were booked and arrested on a complaint of the victim's brother, Jamil Uddin, who alleged that the accused had stabbed his brother to death on a dispute over water supply to their house. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 each on the convicts and ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
