KARACHI, April 21: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram on Wednesday expressed his willingness to serve as a bowling coach for the national team if he was offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"I am willing to render my services to Pakistan team as a bowling coach if I am offered to do so, and definitely bowling coach will be my priority," Wasim said while talking to reporters at the Sindh High Court after confirmation of his pre-arrest bail in criminal breach of trust case.

The case was lodged against him at Darakshan police station Karachi on Nov 28, 2002 by his friend Saadat for not returning the complainant's jeep. He was earlier granted interim bail in the said case and on Wednesday his interim bail was confirmed by High Court.

Wasim said keeping in view trend of cricket, getting services of bowling coach was inevitable for international cricket teams. He observed that the exercise was successfully being carried out by many teams.

The legendary pace bowler, who claimed highest 502 wickets in ODIs and 414 in Tests, retired from international cricket after Pakistan's horrendous World Cup 2003 campaign in southern Africa.

Commenting on Pakistan's bowling performance in the just-concluded home series against India, Wasim said the bowlers in the entire series were not impressive, however, he did not name any specific bowler for poor showing. He said the bowlers should concentrate on their performance rather than making tall claims.

About the Indian team, Wasim was of the view that they played well despite facing pressure of touring Pakistan after almost 15 years. "I know the pressure which the touring team face as I was the member of Pakistan side which visited India and defeated them on their home ground." -PPI
