KARACHI, April 21: The federal government is expected to release more than Rs10 billion to the Sindh government under the head of matching grant and Zila tax during the current financial year.
This was stated by advisor to Sindh chief minister for local government, Wasim Akhtar, while talking to a delegation of representatives of different Town Municipal Administrations on Tuesday.
He said the provincial government has, in principle, agreed to disburse the entire money to be received by it under the head of matching grant among all town administrations of Sindh, including Karachi.
The advisor said though the provincial local government department was previously given Rs6 billion under the head of matching grant and Zila tax, in the light of a recent decision, the province is likely to get more than Rs 10 billion under the same head.
Lauding the measures being taken by the advisor for strengthening local bodies institutions, members of the delegation assured him of utilising funds for undertaking development works in their respective towns in a transparent manner.
Later, a delegation of Hyderabad Development Authority also called on the advisor and apprised him that the employees of the authority were without their salaries for the last two months. The advisor told the delegation that the Sindh government had already released Rs 20 million from its resources for salaries among employees of the HDA.
