KARACHI, April 15: Equipment and instruments worth several hundred thousand rupees were presented to the Dow University of Health Sciencesby the Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons on Thursday.

The equipment were presented at a seminar to the vice chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, by Dr Mervyn Hosein, the association's president. Two suction machines and a fibre-optic bronchoscope were included in the equipment which were donated by the Rotary Club.

Prof Masood Hameed Khan announced on the occasion that he was going to donate equipment worth Rs1 million to the same department for which the donated equipment were meant. "The private sector has played its part by donating these equipment.

"Our university is now going to play its part and donate instruments and equipment to the extent of Rs10 lakhs," he remarked. Capt (Dr) Mirza Raza Ali, medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital Karachi, declared that he too would donate Rs2 million to the department in an effort to strengthen it. "We are in no competition with the Dow University, but the Civil Hospital is going to donate Rs2 million."
