No govt role in Hashmi case: PM

Published April 14, 2004

ISLAMABAD, April 13: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Tuesday that the judgment on Javed Hashmi's case was a decision taken by the court concerned and the government had nothing to do with it.

"We never interfered in matters of the court and will never do so ... it is a judgment by the court and we stand by it," he told journalists here after the Bahria University's convocation.

Alluding to the PPP-Patriots' call for the president to retain his uniform, Mr Jamali said President Gen Pervez Musharraf would himself decide in this regard.

Referring to the opposition's reservations on the National Security Council, he said that the opposition always had some reservations, added that everything in the country's interest would be done.

When asked about the government's reaction if Shahbaz Sharif returned, he said: "We will only take legal steps, nothing illegal would be done." -APP
