Infidelity claims 'absurd': Beckhams

LONDON, April 12: David and Victoria Beckham dismissed out of hand on Monday continuing allegations in the British tabloid press that the England football captain was unfaithful to his wife.

"This weekend a series of even more absurd and unsubstantiated claims have been published about David and Victoria Beckham," said a statement issued by 19 management, the agency which represents pop star Victoria.

"The couple continue to dismiss these stories and they will not be commenting upon them further at this time," the statement said. Amid speculation that Real Madrid star Beckham, 28, might consider legal action after a week-long series of allegations, the statement confirmed that the couple had been in touch with their lawyers.

In a public show of support, Victoria, who turns 30 next weekend, was seen in the stands at Bernabeu stadium on Sunday as Beckham took to the field for Real for a league match against Osasuna, which they lost 3-0.

The couple arrived at their sprawling Hertfordshire home, dubbed "Beckingham Palace," in the early hours of Monday morning. Beckham had already rejected as "ludicrous" claims by his erstwhile personal assistant Rebecca Loos, 26, that they had sex together after he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid while Victoria stayed in Britain.

The furore intensified Sunday when Malaysian-born Sarah Marbeck, 29, told the News of the World newspaper that she had a two-year affair with Beckham that started during a Manchester United tour in Singapore in July 2001. -AFP
