LAHORE, April 12: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan will observe the coming Friday (April 16) as "Down with US Day" to condemn desecration of Imam Abu Hanifa's shrine in Iraq.
Prayer leaders of all schools of thought will be approached to adopt resolutions during Friday sermons to denounce the US and the UK terrorism against civilians in Iraq and pay tribute to the resistance of Iraqi people.
This was decided by a meeting of the JUP provincial executive committee here on Monday. Pir Mehfooz Mashhadi, Ijaz Hashmi, Allama Shabbir Hashmi, Qari Zawwar Bahadur and others attended the meeting.
It also decided to hold Khadimeen (senior party members) conventions at the former divisional headquarters level to mobilize them for making preparations for the next general election.
The party would also hold public meetings to alert the people to anti-democracy and pro-US policies of the Musharraf government and also arrange a conference with a theme "Down with US."
The party's provincial chapter will launch a mass contact drive from April 27 against changes in syllabi. The participants warned the government of an aggressive movement if it re-conducted the army operation in South Waziristan.
Referring to some federal ministers' statements urging Gen Musharraf not to shed his uniform, they threatened that a drive could be launched for trying him (Musharraf) on high treason charges if he attempted to 'assassin' democracy.
