KARACHI: Six more Harkat activists held

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 12: Six more activists of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Alami have been arrested in Manzoor Colony and weapons have been recovered from their possession, police claimed on Monday.

It was the second round of the crackdown on the banned organization in the current month. In the earlier round, on April 6, the police had arrested nine activists in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Boating Basin areas and one of them was described as the mastermind of the suicide bombings at Sheraton Hotel and US consulate.

A spokesman for the Sindh police said that the police investigation wing, on a tip-off, raided house No. 16, Sector 'G', Manzoor Colony, where the suspects were planning a terrorist activity. Sensing danger, he added, the suspects tried to flee but the strong contingent of police deployed there forced them to surrender.

Those arrested have been identified as Abdul Ghani, Adeel, Irfan, Mohammad As'haab alias Kashif, Abdul Rauf alias Brohi, and Khalil Ahmed alias Ilyas Asim. Police claimed that five TT pistols, one mouser gun, four grenades, four timers, four fuses and 32 bullets were recovered from their possession.

During an initial interrogation, the suspects confessed that they had been involved in a number of terrorist attacks and planning more such activities. The Baloch Colony police have registered a case under section 4/5 of the Explosive Act and 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.
