KARACHI: Poor recovery of water charges in nine months

KARACHI, April 11: The KWSB under the head of water charges has, so far, recovered only Rs 284.8 million as against total outstanding dues of Rs 6.1 billion from its consumers in all the 18 towns of the city and cantonment areas.
In terms of percentage of the total recovery made, so far, under the head of water dues, it comes to just four although less than three months are left in the close of the current financial year.
Similarly, the recovery position of sewerage charges was also poor as the KWSB's taxes department under this head has, so far, been able to collect only Rs 83m as against total outstanding dues of Rs1.6 billion from all the 18 towns and other localities which fall under the limits of cantonment areas. The percentage of recovery under the head of sewerage charges has, so far, stood at 4.98.
As far as conservancy and fire taxes are concerned, their recovery position till now from all the 18 towns and the localities falling in the cantonment areas in terms of percentage comes to 4.9 and 8.2, respectively.
Divulging the details of collections made, so far, under the head of water dues, sources said a maximum of 10.5 per cent recoveries had been made from Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town while a minimum of 0.60 has been collected from Landhi Town. The percentage of collections made, so far, under the head of water charges from other towns are as follows:
Keamari (1.6pc); SITE (1.75pc); Baldia (0.85pc); Orangi (1.5pc); Lyari (3.1pc); Saddar (3.4pc); Jamshed (7.7pc); Shah Faisal (5.6pc); Korangi (1.0pc); North Nazimabad (8.8pc); New Karachi (2.8pc); Gulberg (7.8pc); Liaquatabad (6.1pc); Malir (2.5pc); Bin Qasim (1.56pc); Gadap (3.9pc) while that of Division-W which includes localities falling within cantonment limits it comes to only 4pc.
SEWERAGE DUES: The Town-wise break-up of recoveries made, so for, under the head of sewerage charges from all the 18 towns and the areas falling within the cantonment limits in terms of percentage is as follows: Landhi Town (0.60pc); Baldia Town (0.85pc); Korangi Town (1.0pc); Orangi Town (1.5pc); Keamari Town (1.6pc); SITE Town (1.7pc); Lyari Town (3.1pc); Saddar Town (3.4pc); Jamshed Town (7.7pc); Gulshan-Iqbal Town (10.5pc); Shah Faisal Town (5.6pc); North Nazimabad Town (8.8pc); New Karachi Town (2.8pc); Gulberg Town (7.8pc); Liaquatabad Town (6.1pc); Malir Town (2.5pc); Bin Qasim Town (1.86pc); Gadap Town (4.4pc) and Division-W which include areas falling within the cantonment limits (2.4pc).
FIRE TAX: Regarding conservancy and fire tax, the sources said that a maximum recovery of 13 per cent has been made from Gulshan-i-Iqbal while a minimum of only 0.60pc has been collected from Landhi.
The recovery position of conservancy and fire tax of other towns shows that 0.68pc has been recovered from Baldia; 1.25pc has been collected from Keamari; 1.6pc from SITE; 1.4pc from Orangi; 4.74pc from Lyari; 3.6pc from Saddar; 8.1pc from Jamshed; 4.9pc from Shah Faisal; 0.87pc from Korangi; 10.5pc from North Nazimabad; 3.2pc from New Karachi; 10.1pc from Gulberg; 5.7pc from Liaquatabad; 2pc from Malir; 1.8pc from Bin Qasim; 3.9pc from Gadap and 2.49pc from Division-W which includes areas falling in cantonment limits.
