KARACHI, April 8: The city district government has chalked a three-week long fumigation campaign to contain mosquitoes in all the 18 towns. City Nazim Niamatullah Khan has directed all the in charges of malaria control programme to ensure that the anti-mosquito drive is positively launched from Saturday (April 10) strictly in accordance with the programme already notified to them.

Emphasising the need for starting a fumigation and vector control campaign, he asked the area chiefs of malaria control programme to ensue that larvicide treatment of sprinkling 'Fenthion' is applied properly to achieve better results.

According to plan, 12 fumigation vehicles, along with concerned staff, will be at the disposal of each town for one day for undertaking the anti-mosquito campaign in the jurisdiction of their respective union councils. The task of supervising the campaign has been assigned to the union nazims and municipal officers of the town concerned.

The campaign will begin from Gulberg Town on April 10 and will continue till April 30 when the same exercise would be undertaken in Saddar Town. According to schedule, the fumigation campaign in Lyari Town will be carried out on April 12; Gadap Town on April 13; Bin Qasim Town (April 14); Orangi Town (April 15); Landhi Town (April 16); Keamari Town (April 17); Baldia Town (April 19); Korangi Town (April 20); SITE Town (April 21); New Karachi Town (April 22); Malir Town (April 23); Liaquatabad Town (April 24); Shah Faisal Town (April 26); Jamshed Town (April 27); Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town (April 28) and North Nazimabad Town (April 29).

Officials of the CDGK's health department have appealed to the people to ensure that all food items and utensil are properly covered on the day of fumigation in their respective towns.
