TOBA TEK SINGH, April 7: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said the 66 KV grid station in Toba will be upgraded to 132 KV within six months which will end power fluctuation and tripping problems for good.

Addressing a gathering at Wapda offices here on Wednesday, the governor expressed his concern when an XEN told him that the police did not register theft cases against the influential accused.

The XEN also informed the governor that the influential people had been involved in the theft of Wapda material for the last one year. He further disclosed that a Wapda team had recovered a truck loaded with stolen wires from a former Pirmahal town committee chairman, but the police deleted his name from the FIR.

Reacting promptly, the governor director Faisalabad DIG Rana Abid Saeed and Toba DPO Saad Akhtar Bharwana to direct the police stations concerned to take immediate action in this regard.

On a complaint that the Wapda received cost of repair from poor villagers if the transformers of water supply schemes were burnt, the governor assured that he would talk to the Punjab government to bear the expenses of such transformers. However, he directed Wapda officials to replace all out-of-order transformers in the area.

Addressing a gathering at the Zarai Taraqiati Bank, the governor said he would try his best to get decreased the bank mark up on farm loans from 11 per cent to nine per cent as was charged by the other banks.

He directed bank officials to advance more micro loans to livestock and poultry farms particularly the women. The governor also took notice of the farmers' complaints that a number of villages where cotton and other crops had completely destroyed were not declared calamity-hit due to sheer discrimination.

Khalid Maqbool also visited the local railway station where a meeting was held under his chairmanship. The meeting decided that Lahore Railways divisional superintendent Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad would hand over the possession of the disputed Teku Park land to the Toba TMA.

On governor's direction, the Railways DS announced that soon a new train would be introduced between Faisalabad and Multan via Toba while another passenger train would also be started between Shorkot and Faisalabad for government servants and labourers.

The DS disclosed that the speed of trains would be increased from 95kms per hours to 110kms after the replacement of track on Faisalabad-Khanewal section. He said that reserve seats quota for Toba Tek Singh would also be raised.

Speaking to district council members and citizens in the district council hall, the governor said the district government would arrange weddings of 50 poor couples in June. For this purpose, he said the Baitul Maal would donate Rs20,000 to each couple while the district government would spend Rs10,000 on each wedding.

During his visit of Nadra office, press club secretary-general Tariq Saeed apprised the governor that some months ago it was announced that passports would be issued from local Nadra office instead of Faisalabad, but later the decision was changed due to some unknown reason.

The governor directed Nadra officials to set up a passport desk at the local office. He also directed them to send more mobile teams for the collection of NIC forms in villages.

On the demand of trade union federation leader Ghulam Mustafa Paras, the governor directed district Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq to construct a day care centre for the children of working women at the DHQ Hospital.
