HARIPUR, April 7: Four people died and another was injured in two incidents on Tuesday. Police said Mohammad Iqbal Gujjar was repairing a water pump in an irrigation well in Chamba village in union council Dingi when he was suffocated by poisonous gas.

Two youngsters, Amjad Iqbal and Sajjad Ahmad, climbed down the well to help the electrician but they too died there. The villagers called in police and retrieved the bodies. In the other incident, two men allegedly took anti-rat tablets in the Khalabat Township as a result one of them died.

Sanjeebullah Khan, who ran a barber shop at Pakhral Chowk with his cousin Farmanullah Khan, told police that they had been facing economic problems for many months and were distressed.

On Monday night, he said, they decided to end their lives together and consumed the poisonous tablets. Farmanullah died and Sanjeebullah was taken by people to the DHQ hospital where doctors said he was out of danger.
