KARACHI, April 7: Disturbance prevailed on Wednesday in some localities of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Federal B Area in protest against the killings of Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists in Aziz Bhatti police limits on Tuesday.

Police arrested two suspects in the killings and registered an FIR 88/2004 on the complaint of Farasat Rasool, brother of the slain Jawwad Rasool.

Three activists of the Muttahida were shot dead in a clash between two groups of the same faction in a residential complex - Raza Square - on Rashid Minhas Road opposite Aladin Park. Those killed were Jawwad, Sharjeel, and Tehseen alias Mamoo. Faisal Mughal suffered bullet wounds and was shifted to a hospital. All the victims were in mid 20s, police said.

Police said that they had arrested the wounded Faisal and Qamar Khalil in the killing case. Other suspects were absconding and the police had been conducting raids to nab them. Those involved in the case had been expelled from the Muttahida, the police added.

In the aftermath of the killings, the youths turned up on Wednesday morning in different localities and forced the shopkeepers to close their shops. The shops and markets on Rashid Minhas Road from Nipa intersection to the Sharea Faisal remained closed on either side of the thoroughfare in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

In Federal B Area, shops and markets remained closed in many localities, including Hussainabad, Aliabad and Azizabad where youths burnt tyres and blocked various roads. Heavy deployment of police and Rangers were made to normalize the situation and the traffic flow was restored at afternoon.
