LAHORE, April 6: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq said on Tuesday that if his side had a big first innings lead over India, they would be closer to victory.
"We want to score 500 to 600 runs to gain a good lead and pile pressureon India in the second innings," he told reporters at the end of the second day's play of the second Test at the Qadhafi Stadium.
Inzamam admitted that India had a strong batting line-up, but he was hopeful Pakistan's bowlers were quite capable of cashing in on such a big advantage. "After taking the desired lead, we will try to confine them (the Indians) to 400 in the second innings.
That can take us closer to the win," he said. "In fact, it is a hard task to bat in the fourth innings on any surface, but so far this wicket has behaved well and was also helping the bowlers, he said.
Dismissing his brawl with Anil Kumble on field as trivial, he said nothing was serious between him and the Indian leg-spinner as the umpires settled the matter amicably.
Pakistan opener Imran Farhat who also scored a century, said that the coach and captain as well as fellow opener Taufiq Umar had advised him to stay at the crease and he tried to do exactly the same. Imran dedicated his knock to his family, saying performance against India would be a special treat for them.
