QUETTA: Balochistan ideal for investment, says Jam

QUETTA, April 6: The British Deputy High Commissioner based in Karachi, Mr Hamish St Clair-Daniel called on the Governor of Balochistan, Owais Ahmed Ghani, and Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousaf separately, here on Tuesday.

They exchanged views on matters of mutual interests and issues relating to development projects in Balochistan. The governor informed him about the Gwadar deep water port, Saindak and Rigo Dik copper projects and other ongoing mega projects in the province.

In his meeting with Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf, the British envoy was informed that the provincial government was providing all necessary facilities to investors to promote investment in the province.

He informed Mr S.Clair-Daniel that an international investment conference is being held in the provincial capital next month in which the investors would be invited and provided with complete information about opportunities in the province.

The British deputy high commissioner assured the chief minister that his country would review the assistance being provided to the provincial government in development projects, and expressed his keen interest in the investment opportunities shown, and said that British investors would be informed about the opportunities in Balochistan.

CLOTH SEIZED: The Customs officials on Tuesday seized a huge quantity of foreign cloths smuggled into Pakistan following exchange of firing with smugglers near Quetta.

The contraband was smuggled into Pakistan from Afghanistan, Assistant Collector Customs (preventive), Younas Butt, said adding that the customs staff headed by senior officials raided Killi Nu-hasar on a tip off.

The Customs staff signalled a bus No JU-6940 coming from Nushki to stop but the driver paid no heed to the signal and people sitting in the bus started firing on raiding party while trying to escape.
