SAHIWAL, April 2: The Wapda chairman has ordered an inquiry against Mepco officials for suspending power supply to Farid Town Scheme No 3 for 38 hours.

It is reported that on March 28, 29 and 30, Mepco officers disconnected electricity supply for 38 hours (nine hours during the day and two hours in the evening).

When contacted, a Mepco assistant manager said electricity supply was stopped to cover up line losses.

Meanwhile, a large number of consumers told this scribe on Friday that they were sent inflated bills.

They alleged that Mepco line superintendents and linemen have been stealing electricity themselves and they (consumers) have to pay for the crime committed by the officials.

They said they had sent a memorandum to the Wapda chairman on which he had ordered an inquiry.

BODY FOUND: Noorshah police recovered the body of a woman from the river Ravi on Friday.

Rani alias Sohny, 35, disappeared mysteriously a week ago. Police arrested her husband Asghar who reportedly confessed to committing the crime.

Asghar told police that he married to Rani a decade go. She had developed illicit relations with a man and she crossed the river to see her paramour. He said he had warned her a number of times. He said he strangled her and threw her body into the river Ravi.
