SHIKARPUR, April 2: District Nazim Muhammad Arif Khan Mahar has said that district governments are part of democratic system and meant to resolve local problems faced by the people, but some vested interests want the system to fail.

He was speaking at a citizens and labour councillors conference organized by the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) here on Friday.

The Nazim appealed to citizens to help remove hurdles in the way district governments.

Mr Mahar said some criminals were deteriorating the law and order situation, but pointed out that they were exploiting the ongoing tribal disputes.

In reply to a question, the Nazim said development funds had been provided to all the taluka councils on equal basis while uplift works would be carried out in view of the proposals presented by the taluka and union councils concerned.

Other speakers on the occasion were: DCO Shikarpur Nadar Ali Markhayani, DPO Arif Haneef, District Public Safety Committee Chairman Safdar Hussain Jatoi, Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haji Nisar Ahmed Memon, Vice-president Mian Zafar Alvi and others.
