ISLAMABAD, April 2: The visiting Chinese delegation on Friday called on Industries Minister Liaqat Ali Jatoi and expressed its willingness to set up a large-sized spinning unit in Pakistan.

While indicating this, the leader of the Chinese delegation, Wang Tian Kai, Vice Minister of China National Textile Industry Council, said "China does not want to be a competitor but a partner with Pakistan in textile manufacturing and textile trade."

Mr Wang, who is also the president of China's largest Hengtin Group of Industries, stated that after setting up of spinning mill, his group would also establish a weaving unit through joint venture.

He also requested the Pakistan authorities to provide more details of the Textile City being established at Karachi.

Responding to the Chinese delegation leader's remarks, Mr Jatoi appreciated his proposal to set up a spinning unit for which he offered land in the proposed Textile City.

The minister added that there would be good news in the coming budget regarding import of raw material and textile machinery.

In another development, leader of the visiting 12-member cotton/textile trade delegation from Uganda, Mrs. Cecilia Atim Ogwal asked Pakistan to set up a spinning mill in their country.

While talking to Mr Jatoi, she also proposed that Pakistan should invest in the manufacturing and garments sector in her country.

Her visit to Pakistan and discussions with the officials here, Mrs. Ogwal said, she had found that everything was normal in Pakistan and safe for investment.

Mr Jatoi, reciprocating her sentiments, affirmed Pakistan's keenness to develop economic cooperation with Uganda. Pakistan, he added, was planning to organize single-country exhibition in African countries including Uganda. He also assured her that Pakistan would help Uganda set up spinning mill for which the private sector would be encouraged.
