ISLAMABAD, March 29: The chief election commissioner on Monday extended the last date for revision of electoral rolls to April 30. An EC announcement said that the application for deletion and correction of electoral rolls could be made on a prescribed form to the revising authorities.
The CEC asked the people, who had attained the voting age, to get themselves registered. He also said that the names of those who had died be deleted from the lists.
"Keeping in view all the attending circumstances, the CEC has been pleased to further extend the date for revision of electoral rolls from 14th April to 30th April, 2004," the announcement said.
Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan, the CEC, said the electoral process was the soul of democracy. One of the crucial questions is the problem of registration of citizens as voters, particularly those who attained the age of 18 years on Jan 1, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
The revising authorities were told to dispose of the claims, objections and applications for corrections by May 15.
