Verena inspires Windies to victory


KARACHI, March 29: Talented Verena Felicien produced a solid allround show to help West Indies to a comfortable 46 runs success over Pakistan in the fifth women One-day International (ODI) at Karachi Gymkhana Ground on Monday.

The victory gave touring side 3-2 lead in the seven match series. St.Lucia-born 35-year-old Verena top-scored with 49 off 99 balls and studded with five boundaries to help West Indies to respectable total of 186 all out in 49.4 overs after their skipper Stephanie won the toss and batted first.

Pakistan in response were spun out on the final ball of 50th over with Verena Felicien taking four wickets for 21 runs with her leg spin bowling. Opener Kiran Baloch again emerged as the highest scorer with 41 after facing 97 balls and it contained five hits to the boundary. Zehmurad Afzal hit 32 in 65 without crossing the boundary and Sajjida hit two fours in her 22.

Pakistan women were 113 for four in 41st over but crumbled to 140 all out against the leg spin of Verena, who finished with figures of four wickets for 21 runs in eight.
