ISLAMABAD, March 29: The Pakistan People's Party has denied that the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy has taken any decision to undertake a long march on the Wana issue.
In a statement here on Monday, a PPP spokesman said in the last ARD meeting, a representative of the PML-N had given a proposal to undertake a long march on the Wana issue which was noted for consideration by the PPP leadership.
However, the party leadership had neither met to discuss the said proposal nor was likely to accept it, the spokesman said. The proposal was wrongly reported as a decision at a press conference at which the central leaders of the PPP were not present.
The secretary-general has ordered an inquiry into the ARD incident to ensure that in future such confusion is not caused in the press. Though the PPP is unlikely to take part in the long march, it has been critical of the handling of the Wana operation and has condemned the civilian deaths and called for compensation to the innocent civilian people who were killed, injured or suffered.
It may be recalled that PPP rejects the use of Pakistan territory by foreign militants as well condemns brutal killings of soldiers. It welcomes the recent collective decision of tribesmen that will expose foreign terrorists and their supporters holed up in tribal areas.
