DADU: Teachers demand allowance

DADU, March 29: A large number of primary teachers of Kotri taluka held a demonstration outside the district Nazim office here on Monday to protest over non-provision of conveyance allowance to them for the last eight months.

They were led by the chairman, Educational Alliance, Mohammad Ismail Leghari, and senior vice-chairman, Rustam Ali Abbasi. Speaking to the protesters, Mr Leghari said that the education department officials were not paying the allowance to teachers and lower staff of the department in Kotri taluka.

He warned that they would continue their protest if their demand was not accepted. District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar came out of his office and assured the teachers that conveyance allowance and other facilities would be provided to them.

TAX: Hundreds of farmers and businessmen held a demonstration outside the district council hall here on Monday for two hours to protest against recovery of taxes at several places on the Indus Highway.

Talking to protesters, Dadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Ghulam Shah Malkani said that contractors of market committee with its officials were recovering illegal taxes from farmers and traders on the Indus Highway despite a ban by the provincial government.
