KARACHI, March 29: A father of a child died after he suffered a bullet wound to his head at his house in Baghdadi on Monday, police said. Jamil Bashir, 30, resident of Shahbeg Lane in Baghdadi, was taken by his relatives to the civil hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The family claimed that Jamil shot himself over a domestic dispute, the police said.

However, the medico-legal officer contested the family's claim and said that the findings of the postmortem examination showed that the victim was shot with a considerable distance.

Police were investigating into the case to ascertain as to whether it was a suicide or a murder. In the same vicinity, Aziz Khan, 25, suffered a bullet wound in a crossfire between two groups in Nayabad, the police said. Aziz was taken to the civil hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police failed to arrest any suspect.

PRISONER DIES: An under trial prisoner died in mysterious circumstances in Landhi Jail late on Sunday night. The jail police said that Aziz, 36, suffered a heart attack and died before he could be attended by a doctor at the jail hospital.

His body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The autopsy report was reserved till the receipt of histopathological examination and chemical test. Sir Syed police had arrested Aziz two years ago in a robbery case. He was remanded to judicial custody later by a court.

ACCIDENTS: Two people died in road accidents in different areas on Monday. Police said that a minibus of route G-7 collided with a water tanker on Tariq Road in Ferozabad police limits. As a result, the minibus hit the nearby pavement where a beggar, Abdul Ghafoor, was sitting. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.

Police impounded the water tanker and the minibus and arrested their drivers. On the National Highway, Bashir, 30, was knocked down to death in a hit-and-run accident. His body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy, the Shah Latif Town police said.
