QUETTA, March 27: Members of the opposition must play a positive role and utilize their capabilities for the province's development, says Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani.
He was talking to a delegation of opposition members, led by opposition leader Kachkol Ali, who called on him here on Saturday.
The governor said: "We all have to work jointly for the progress of the province and take steps to further stabilize democracy in the country."
Pakistan's progress, he said, was dependent on Balochistan, adding that political parties should shun their petty differences and work devotedly for the province's development.
About the Ashura killings, the governor said that certain proposals were being considered to check terrorist attacks.
Underlining the need for promoting education in the province, he said that de-politicization of educational institutions was vital, adding that opposition's cooperation was needed in this regard.
A women's university, he said, had been established while fund for scholarship had also been allocated that would be given to outstanding students.
Referring to a suggestion floated by the opposition members about the introduction of English in the public sector educational institutions, the governor said that steps would be taken in this regard.
He said that the government was considering to compile a teachers' cadre on the district level so that teachers of a particular district could not be transferred to other districts.
Members of the delegation, included Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Akhtar Hussain Lango, Jan Mohammad Buledi, Akbar Mengal and Mujeed Achakzai.-APP
