KARACHI, March 27: The Cantonment Board Faisal has declared several roads in its controlled area as "charged parking zones". Residents of Block-19 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar said although the CBF did nothing in the last 10 years for maintenance of roads and removal of encroachments , the Cantt officials were burdening people with taxes.

"We have no libraries, dispensaries, playgrounds and other civic facilities but are continuously being burdened by taxes. Now they have awarded contracts for charged parking, a resident complained.

According to him, there are shops, markets and pushcarts selling fruits and vegetables and if somebody halts his or her vehicle, they are compelled to pay certain parking fee.

"We have come to know that revenue collected from our area is being embezzled by the officials," said one Shams.

The area people have urged the governor, the chief minister and the City Nazim to save them from "illogical and cruel" decisions of CBF officials.-PPI
