Indian actors vow not to act in hate movies

ISLAMABAD, March 27: Two top Bollywood stars, India's version of Hollywood, have vowed not to act in films that promote anti-Pakistan sentiments.

Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty, who left Lahore on Friday after a two-day trip, said their dream to visit Pakistan had finally come true, a local private television channel reported on Saturday. Shetty and Kumar said in future they would not act in a movie in which fuelled sentiments against Pakistan.

Both Bollywood and its Pakistani counterpart have been making movies which stir mutual hatred and distrust.

"I immediately nodded 'yes' when asked to perform in the concert for peace", Kumar told reporters before departing, adding that he would love to visit Pakistan again.

Shetty said showbiz people from the two countries should make a point of performing in each other's country.

"Artists from the two countries have always tried to improve 50 years of tense relations that have existed between Pakistan and India," she added.

Shetty said performing in a concert in Pakistan was their contribution to these efforts.

Visits between parliamentarians, business and showbiz people have increased following recent moves to normalize relations between the two countries.-dpa
