KARACHI, March 26: The Sindh High Court vacated on Friday its interim order to halt further proceedings in the auction of grounded ship Tasman Spirit's wreckage.
Appearing for the auction purchasers, Barrister Abid Zuberi submitted that the objector, who had sought a permanent injunction, was a stranger to the proceedings. He was neither a bidder nor had any other interest in the disposal of the wreckage. The ship's owners accepted the highest bids offered by his clients, he said.
The lawyer said the front and aft parts of the ship were sold in an open auction held in consultation with the SHC official assignee as directed by the court.
He produced documents to show that the assignee was duly informed of and consulted on the auction proceedings. The Friday order paves the way for the shifting of the wreckage to the ship breaking yards of the purchasers at Gadani.
