KARACHI: School buildings to be vacated, says Mahar
KARACHI, March 25: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mahar has said that the schools lying closed in the province would soon be reopened and academic activities would resume there after the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The chief minister was speaking at a high-level meeting at CM House here on Thursday. He said that the government had decided to open the buildings lying closed instead of constructing new one.
Besides, he said that the government would get the buildings of educational institutions vacated from occupiers. He said that only two-room primary schools would be constructed for those getting education under trees for years.
He said that several programmes in education sector were being initiated in the province for the new academic year. He said that female students would be provided text books free of cost while primary students would also get milk and breakfast.
"Students especially girls will be given scholarships and other facilities that will encourage them to continue their education and ultimately help raising literacy rate," he stated.
Ali Mahar said that recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff was going on for achieving these targets and shortage of staff in all educational institutions would soon be overcome. He said it was among the priorities of the provincial government to promote education and provide facilities of health care to the masses.
The chief minister said that technical education and information technology would be promoted from the next academic year and maximum facilities would be provided in this regard to bring the province in competition with other provinces.
He said that co-curricular activities would also be started in educational institutions including inter-school and inter- college debate competitions throughout the province. Moreover, he said that sports facilities would be provided to all students so that the new generation could compete in every field.
He declared that the students getting first, second and third positions in all districts would be given Chief Minister's Awards in an effort to promote education in the province. Besides, he said, hardworking teachers would also get prizes.
Earlier, Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat informed the chief minister about the problems being faced in education sector and resources available to resolve the same.
Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmad and some government officials were also attended the meeting. Meanwhile, the chief minister said that the government was making all out efforts to safeguard lives and properties of the masses adding that it was the responsibility of police to serve people with honesty and devotion.
He expressed these views while talking to police personnel from Punjab who had been deputed into Sindh Police. Ali Mahar said that police should treat the masses without any discrimination and added that police could earn goodwill only through its attitude.
On the occasion, IGP Sindh apprised the chief minister about the police personnel coming from Punjab and introduced them to the chief minister. In the meantime, Provincial Revenue Minister, Haji Altaf Unar; Provincial Adviser, Ghulam Rasool Unar; MPAs Naila Imam and Dr Dost Mohammad Memon; Taluka Nazim of Kunri, Mohammad Jam Memon; Dr Karim Mahar and Haji Abdullah Arbab called on the Chief Minister on Thursday.
According to an official handout, the chief minister met the elected representatives and discussed various issues pertaining to their respective areas. -PPI/APP
