KARACHI, March 24: The director-general of Federal Directorate of Education, Brig Maqsoodul Haq, has said that the country inherits dismal, un-dynamic and unorganized education system.
"We have been failed to understand the root cause of deteriorating education system. We can resolve 50 per cent of the issue by understanding it. Therefore, we must understand the problem first," he said while addressing the faculty members of Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) on Wednesday.
Brig Haq said that education was the only way to progress for any country. "It is tragedy of our nation that we have not paid proper attention on it," he observed. The educational leadership must be dynamic and committed, which the country was lacking today, he said. Besides, there is a leadership crisis at all levels in the country, he remarked.
He said that education was being dealt as uni-focused chapter, but, it was a multidimensional. In the modern global concept of education, he said, there would be much more difficulties to be faced in this area. "Today, if classroom is integrated, we can make the whole nation integrated in future," he commented.
The director-general was of the view that teachers were the real agents of change in any society. He emphasized on value system and urged upon teachers to play their major role in character building of students. He said, "Teacher is the real nation builder."
He suggested that teachers should also go beyond curriculum by enriching it with the latest information of the world by using audio and visual tools of learning. "Instead of celebrating national days without any purpose, the priority should be given to the character building of students," he added.
Brig Haq said that the SMI was a historic institute of the country being alma mater of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. "Today, I got tremendous inspiration by visiting it," he said.
He said that there was a need of analytical research on the four years spent by Quaid-i-Azam in Sindh Madressah as its student. "Through this, we may understand about 60 per cent of his personality," he said.
Earlier, SMI principal Muhammad Ali Shaikh said that the institute being a national asset demanded coordination with various educational organizations and institutions of the country for progress. -PPI
