President confers awards

ISLAMABAD, March 23: President Gen Pervez Musharraf decorated 29 military personnel and 108 civilian with awards at an impressive ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The awards have been given in recognition of outstanding services rendered by the officials of the armed forces and civilians in their respective fields. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, federal ministers, services chiefs, high-ranking civil and military officers and diplomats.

Dr Samar Mubarakmand was awarded Nishan-i-Imtiaz for his services in nuclear physics. Those who received Hilal-i-Imtiaz military for their meritorious services to the country are Lt-Gen Safdar Hussain, Air Marshal M. Arif, Air Marshal Masood Akhtar, Air Marshal Arshad Kaleem, Maj-Gen Javed Aslam, Rear Admiral Sikandar Iqbal, Rear Admiral Saeed Ahmad, Maj-Gen Mohammad Azam, Maj-Gen Mohammad Hameeduddin, Maj-Gen Khalid Mushtaq, Maj-Gen Ms Shahida Malik, Maj-Gen Khalid Zaheer, Maj-Gen Syed Athar Ali, Maj-Gen Waseem Ahmad, Maj-Gen Tariq Saleem, Maj-Gen Imtiaz Hussain, Maj-Gen Mohammad Afzal, Maj-Gen Hamid Rab Nawaz, Maj-Gen Mohammad Sabir, Maj-Gen Shakeel Tayyab Tirmizi, Maj-Gen Salahuddin, Maj-Gen Najeebuz Zaman, Maj-Gen Khalid Mehmood, Maj-Gen Syed Sabahat Hussain, Maj-Gen Mohammad Naseem Riaz, Maj-Gen Jamshed Ferozji Agha, Air Vice Marshal Shahid Nisar, Maj-Gen Masood Anwar and Rear Admiral Anisur Rehman.

Hilal Quaid-i-Azam was awarded to Dr Hussain Abdul Razaq Al-Gazairy for his services to Pakistan. -PPI
