PPP protests against govt policies

HYDERABAD, March 23: Activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians held demonstrations and observed token hunger strikes in different Sindh districtson Tuesday to protest against policies of the government.

The activists also protested against construction of greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects and killing of MPA Abdullah Murad Baloch in Karachi. In Hyderabad, a large number of PPP activists observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.

They were protesting against price hike, unemployment, delay in the arrest of the killers of PPP MPA Abdullah Murad Baloch in Karachi and imprisonment of Asif Ali Zardari.

They were led by PPP Sindh Council member Syed Fayaz Ali Shah, MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Maula Bux Chandio, Amanullah Siyal, Mir Fateh Talpur, Roshan Solangi, Aftab Khanzada, Usman Kennedy and other local party leaders.

The protesters raised slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf. They demanded immediate arrest of the murderers of MPA Baloch and release of Mr Zardari.

THATTA: In Thatta, the protesters held a demonstration and staged a sit-in on the National Highway for two hours. Led by PPP MPA Humera Alwani, district party president Dr Wahid Soomro and senior vice-president Syed Masood Mustafa Shah, the protesters earlier took out a procession that marched through main thoroughfares of the town.

DADU: PPP activists took out a procession here on Tuesday against President Gen Pervez Musharraf. After marching through main roads of the town, they held a demonstration outside the press club for two hours.

They were led by district PPP general-secretary Dost Ali Jaiser, taluka president Saifullah Panhwar and city president Abdul Karim Mallah. Talking to the protesters, Mr Jaiser criticized police for failing to arrest the killers of MPA Baloch.

He held the Sindh government responsible for the murder of the MPA. Later, the protesters observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.

NAWABSHAH: Protest camps were established in Nawabshah, Daur, Sakrand and Qazi Ahmad by activists of the PPP. Led by party leaders Imdad Dhamrah and Dost Ali Rind, the protesters also held a demonstration outside the press club.

Protest camps were also established in Sakrand, Daur, and Daulatpur. Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Qadir Chandio, who visited the camps, said the government was responsible for the political crisis in the country. He said the protest against the government would continue. He accused the Sindh government of protecting the murderers of MPA Baloch.

KHAIRPUR: The PPP established hunger strike camps at headquarters of the district's eight talukas - Khairpur, Kingri, Nara, Faiz Ganj, Sobhodero, Gambat, Kot Diji and Thari Mirwah - on Tuesday. A large number of party activists turned up at the hunger strike camps to lodge their protest against the government.

MIRPURKHAS: A token hunger strike was observed by PPP activists, including women, on Tuesday at the Post Office Chowk. Those who observed the hunger strike included Ishaq Narejo, Mirpurkhas taluka PPP president, Khan Mohammad Baloch, Mirpurkhas city president, district president Noor Hassan Chandio and former Sindh Minister Hari Ram Kishori Lal. The PPP leaders also criticized the government for Wana operation.

LARKANA: Activists of the PPP observed a hunger strike to protest against the 17th amendment to the Constitution. Ghulamullah Mahoto, Mazhar Khan Junejo, Khair Mohammad Shaikh, Asghar Shaikh, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto and others led the protesters. Hungers strikes were also observed by the party activists at sub-divisional headquarters of the district.
