Indus treaty team leaves for India

LAHORE, March 22: A three-member delegation of the Pakistan Indus Water Basin Treaty commissionerate left here on Monday for India.

Commissioner Jamaat Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner Faris Qazi and NWFP irrigation secretary would inspect Dulhasti Hydle Power Station and Salal Dam on the river Chenab in Jammu area and Rambir and Partab canals.

According to official sources, the visit is aimed at fulfilling the duty under the Indus Basin Treaty which makes it mandatory for both sides to inspect the entire system once every five years.

The visit includes inspection of the three sites and some routine meetings. Following the visit of the Pakistan delegation, the Indian side would reciprocate during the next one month, the sources said.
