GUJRANWALA, March 21: Qila Dedar Singh police on Sunday claimed to have arrested after a brief encounter a proclaimed offender who had killed a constable some seven years ago. However, the PO's three accomplices managed to escape from the scene.

Police said that PO Sajid alias Sajo had killed constable Aslam on resistance during a robbery bid at a filling station on Hafizabad Road on Feb 20, 1997. The PO was also involved in looting several passers-by and vehicle owners with the help of his accomplices.

On Sunday, the PO and his men were present at their hideout when police on a tip-off raided there to arrest them. Getting wind of police presence, the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned.

After a brief shootout, the police arrested the PO after he laid down his arms. However his three accomplices beat a retreat. Police also recovered looted goods and illicit arms from the possession of the arrested PO.

When the Education department initiated an inquiry into the matter, SST teacher Uzma Rafiq recorded her statement against the headmistress.

To take revenge, Najma Nisa along with her sons Adnan and Adil humiliated the teacher in the presence of students. They abused her and kept her in unlawful detention in the classroom.

They also threatened her with dire consequences in case she did not withdraw her statement. Later, the area people rescued her and strongly protested against the headmistress and her sons. District police officer Saud Aziz ordered an immediate action against the headmistress and her sons.
