India name team for series

RAWALPINDI, March 19: India on Friday named its six players for the upcoming SAF polo series against Pakistan to be played at Rawalpindi Polo Club from March 23.

The next two matches of the first leg of this series, part of build-up activities for the SAF Games, will also be played at the same venue on March 26 and 27.

The squad selected by Polo Association of India will tentatively arrive in Lahore on March 21 before moving on to Rawalpindi. The three-match second leg of the series will be held at Delhi on dates to be set later.

A brainchild of chairman SAF Games Organising Committee, Lt Gen. Syed Arif Hasan, the series is being held as one of the pre-event activities of the multi-sports SAF Games beginning in the Pakistan capital from March 29, featuring competitions in 15 disciplines amongst seven Saarc countries plus Afghanistan.

The Indian team to clash against Pakistan in the first leg will be led by Uday Kalaaan while the other players in the team are: Lt Ravi Rathore, Bashir Ali, Bhawani Kalvi, Vishal Singh and Capt. G.S. Pandher. The Pakistan squad is expected to be selected in a day or two. -APP
