SRINAGAR, March 18: A pro-India politician was among 11 people killed in the latest burst of violence in occupied Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
Mukhtair Ahmed, vice-president of the Janata Dal party's youth wing, was shot dead outside his house in the Channa Mohalla district of Srinagar on Thursday, police and residents said.
"Ahmed died on the spot," a police spokesman said. A Kashmiri group, the Save Kashmir Movement, claimed responsibility for the daylight killing. The group warned of "more attacks" in the coming days in a telephone call to a local news agency.
Meanwhile, Indian troops overnight and Thursday shot dead four Mujahideen, including a "divisional commander" of Al Badr in Anantnag, police said. Four more Kashmiris were shot dead in two clashes in Baramulla and Kupwara, police said. Police said a Kashmiri group shot dead two civilians in Pulwama and Anantnag. -AFP
