TOBA TEK SINGH: Toba govt objects to frequent transfers

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, March 18: District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq has assured the district council members that he will request Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi not to transfer officers without consulting the local government.

At the district council meeting on Thursday, he claimed that the district government had been facing problems because of transfers and postings of officers on the recommendations of parliamentarians. Therefore, he said, the provincial government should seek consent of the district administration before ordering transfers and postings.

Former EDO (finance) Tariq Najeeb Najmi, who is currently serving as the Sheikhupura DCO, has recently been transferred four times in a short duration. Chairing the meeting, District Naib Nazim Haji Ghulam Rabbani assured the house that he would write to the Punjab IGP to take stern action against Rajana police SHO Aslam Dogar, who allegedly had insulted a union council Nazim without any reason.

CASE: The Kamalia city police registered a case on Thursday against disqualified union council Nazim Pir Ahmad Shahzad, who is now contesting the bypolls to the same slot, and his seven accomplices on the charge of snatching Rs1.6 million in cash from a resident of Jacobabad (Sindh).

Complainant Dr Nizamuddin informed police that four months ago Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq made an agreement with the former Nazim to set up a grand medical store at Kamalia with his investment. When he reached Kamalia, Farooq was kidnapped and taken to the outhouse of the ex-Nazim, who, along with his seven accomplices, deprived him of cash.

Woman Slain: A married woman was shot dead by brothers of her husband for seeking divorce in a nearby village here on Thursday.

Shahnaz Bibi was living with her parents in Chak 184-GB after a dispute with her husband. She had also filed a suit in a local court for seeking divorce from her husband. On Thursday, she was passing through Nia Bazaar at Kamalia when Bahadur Ali along with his other brothers shot her dead.

CRUSHED: A minor girl was crushed to death on Thursday by a speeding car at Kamalia. Nadia, the daughter of labourer Abdul Hameed, was crossing the road near Bhagaiwala locality. She died on the spot.
