KARACHI, March 17: A policeman died in an encounter with armed suspects in Soldier Bazaar area on Wednesday night. Police said that two of its officials Shafeeq ul Hasan and Shahzad Hafeez were on routine patrol on motorcycle at Nishtar Road when they signalled two young men on a motorcycle to stop.

Instead when they tried to escape, police chased them and at one point came close to each other near Bano Plaza, when suspects opened fire at the police. Subsequently, police official Shafeeq ul Hasan suffered four bullet wounds and died before he could be shifted to hospital.

His colleage Shahzad retaliated by returning fire and wounded one of the suspects.
