KARACHI, March 15: A girl died and her sister was seriously wounded when fire-crackers dumped in their house exploded in Shershah on Monday. Keamari Town Police Officer Athar Rasheed Butt told Dawn that the two girls were sisters of a police official, Zulfiqar, posted at the Site police station.

He said that Zulfiqar had dumped the two bags containing fire-crackers at the roof-top of his house located at Akbar Road, Shershah. "The sizable quantity of crackers caught fire trigging an explosion. The ignition was probably caused by unusual heat on Monday," the TPO said. He further said that police were interrogating Zulfiqar to further investigate the case.

Police said that Lubna, 18, died before she could be shifted to the hospital, her elder sister Zeenat, 22, was seriously injured. She was admitted to the Civil Hospital in a critical condition. Apart from the casualty, slight damage to the property also occurred in the explosion, police said.

ACCIDENT: A young motorcyclist died in a hit-and- run accident in Nazimabad on Monday morning. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead due to the profuse bleeding.
